Women’s Funding Network created the Responsible AI in Philanthropy: A Feminist Framework to help funders engage AI through a gender justice lens. More than a technology issue, AI is a defining social and economic challenge that will shape the future of labor, care, health, education, safety, and civic life.
We believe AI should expand opportunity, strengthen democracy, and advance gender justice through accountable governance, community leadership, and equitable infrastructure. We approach AI not as a race to innovate, but as our calling to advance justice.
This Framework offers practical principles to help philanthropy make thoughtful investments, ask better questions, and center the voices of communities most affected by technological change. We invite funders, partners, and movement leaders to join us in shaping an AI future grounded in shared power, accountability, and human dignity—because the future of AI should be built with communities, not simply for them.
