Mitzie Hunter is a community leader guided by inclusion, purpose, and social impact. Her career has spanned the private and non-profit sectors, and government, with a longstanding focus on building stronger, more equitable communities.

After more than a decade in ICT leadership, Mitzie held executive roles at Goodwill Industries, Toronto Community Housing, and CivicAction. She then began a 10-year career in provincial politics as an Ontario MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood. During this time, she made history as the first Black woman to serve as Ontario’s Minister of Education, and also held the roles of Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, and Associate Minister of Finance in which she led Ontario’s pension plan reform. In 2023, Mitzie was a widely recognized candidate for the Mayor of the City of Toronto. Today she is President and CEO of the Canadian Women’s Foundation and a respected advocate for women, girls, and gender-diverse people across the country.

Mitzie is known for her expertise in building neighbourhoods, cities, and communities — and the inclusive infrastructure, programs, and economies that support them. Her commitment to community is reflected in past board roles with the United Way of Greater Toronto and TVO. She currently serves on the boards of Fidelity Canada, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, and the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

Mitzie holds an Executive MBA from the University of Toronto. She is also a Senior Fellow with the C.D. Howe Institute, a Canadian Urban Leader at the University of Toronto’s School of Cities, and former Chair of the Sectoral Table on the Caring Economy.

Through her leadership and advocacy, Mitzie champions local, provincial, and national efforts that make communities safer, stronger, and more equitable for all.
