USAID Cuts Include Multiple Grants to Funds for Global Women’s Economic Empowerment
Last Friday, U.S. District Judge Car Nichols narrowly blocked 2,200 personnel at the U.S. Agency on International Development from being placed on administrative leave. This represented a small number of the total number of USAID direct hire personnel who were placed on leave globally, with the exception of those directing mission-critical functions, including the provision of humanitarian aid.
Among the many international assistance programs on the chopping block as the agency is dismantled are multiple economic empowerment programs for global women, including the Gender Equity and Equality Action Fund, Women in the Digital Economy Fund, and Generating Resilience and Opportunities for Women. Currently, these funds are no longer in operation,n and all information about them has been removed from the USAID website.
