MADRE

MADRE is an international human rights organization and feminist fund that partners with community-based, women-led organizations on the frontlines of war, climate breakdown, and their aftermath. We promote the leadership of women and girls through three core strategies: grantmaking, capacity bridging, and legal advocacy — to achieve gender, racial, climate, and disability justice. MADRE specializes in providing trust-based, long-term, and flexible support to grassroots groups led by women and girls, with a focus on Indigenous women, Afro-descendant women, LGBTQIA+ people, and people with disabilities who are largely under the radar of traditional philanthropy and/or where conflict or disaster have rendered them difficult to fund and challenging to reach. Since its founding 40 years ago, MADRE has distributed more than $69 million in grants to grassroots partners throughout the globe. In fiscal year 2023, they awarded $4.6 million in grants.
