Optio

Optio works to overcome systemic barriers to reproductive justice through litigation, capacity-building, advocacy, and access to essential healthcare. In their Legal Program, Optio uses strategic litigation to decriminalize abortion and expand access to emergency contraception, challenging restrictive laws and defending reproductive autonomy. Through their Access Program, they collaborate with local abortion accompaniment networks to ensure that women can access safe abortion in legally constrained environments. Optio also supports the registration of misoprostol and emergency contraception, and trains medical professionals and community health workers in their safe and effective use. In their Education Program, Optio partners with safe space clubs to help adolescent girls overcome the academic and reproductive health barriers that prevent them from completing secondary school.

Grounded in a human rights and gender equity framework, Optio’s work aims to drive structural change that ensures lasting autonomy, dignity, and the full realization of rights for women and girls across Central America.
