The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) is the premier national and global research and educational organization supporting the socio-economic empowerment of African-American women and their families.
DREF was established by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation. A major component and program of DREF, The Center for Research for African American Women serves as a comprehensive database and resource on Africa-American Women and honors their roles and contributions in building the United States.
DREF promotes research that identifies and fashions solutions to issues affecting African-American women and their families nationally and globally through funding and support of public service programs of DST, Inc. and collaborative organizations.
We strengthen and expand charitable, educational and scientific programs with similar community service goals DREF:
- Conducts research that documents the economic, educational, social and cultural contributions of African-American Women
- Influences (Advocate for) policy decisions that will effect positive societal changes
- Prepares African-American women to make greater contributions in their local and global communities
- Solicits funds to support and strengthen the programs of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
- Grants funds to organizations whose initiatives are consistent with Delta's Programmatic thrusts
- Promotes research pivotal in resolving critical issues affecting African-American women and their families
- Serves as a fiscal agent for charitable contributions to public service and scholarship programs.
DREF supports the programmatic thrusts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, an organization whose mission is to provide volunteer service to advance the well-being of humankind. The Sorority offers programs to communities throughout the world based upon the organization's Five-Point Program Thrust:
- Economic Development
- Educational Development
- International Awareness and Involvement
- Physical and Mental Health
- Political Awareness and Involvement
