The commercial sexual exploitation of children in the United States is an epidemic that has garnered little attention. It is estimated that up to 200,000 children are trafficked within the United States, the majority whom are girls who are trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation. Some additional facts:

Women’s funds have always been on the cutting-edge of social innovation, often times the first to create, support and promote the latest solutions to major social problems. The Atlanta Women’s Foundation, Minnesota Foundation for Women and New York Women’s Foundation, for example, are key partners and conveners of coalitions advancing public policy change and a system of care for sexually exploited girls in their communities.

Women’s Funding Network Releases Georgia Demand Study to Craigslist

STATEMENT BY: Chris Grumm, CEO and President, Women’s Funding Network

SAN FRANCISCO (June 17, 2010) – As part of an ongoing response to critics who allege Craigslist plays a role in the commercial sexual exploitation of children, CEO Jim Buckmaster in his April 29, 2010, blog post expressed his commitment to “continue to work with our partners in law enforcement and advocacy groups, and reach out to potential new ones, as we strive to do the best job we can in combating human trafficking…” He reiterated this commitment again in his May 11, 2010, blog entry.

Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery

The Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery (FAM) is dedicated to increasing access to midwifery in North America through education, research and public policy.

Consistent independent research shows that expanding the midwives model of care in North America improves maternal and infant health outcomes, reduces unnecessary and costly medical interventions, and increases patient satisfaction.
