Thank the New York Times for Spotlighting Women!

On August 23, thanks to the leadership of Nicholas Kristof, the New York Times columnist and champion of women's rights worldwide, the Sunday New York Times Magazine focused on "Saving the World's Women: How changing the lives of women and girls in the developing world can change everything."

The women's funding movement and our Women Moving Millions campaign were featured in this special edition via Lisa Belkin's article, The Power of the Purse. This is an exciting example of how our movement is successfully building momentum and how we are moving forward in our shared goal of raising the visibility of women's funds and our role in improving the lives of women and girls worldwide. Special congratulations to member women's funds that received individual mention, including the Ms. Foundation, Global Fund for Women and New York Women's Foundation.

Keep the momentum going and leverage this unique opportunity to spotlight the power of women's funds!

  1. Send a Letter: Submit a letter-to-the-editors of the NYT Magazine thanking them for this important edition and urging them to make this special edition an annual event. Here's a sample letter:
    Thank you for the August 23rd special edition of the Magazine. The status of the world's women and girls and their power to change the world is an important story and one worth repeating. I urge you to make this special edition an annual event.
  2. Give Thanks: Thank Nicholas Kristof on his blog for his commitment to highlighting the power of women and girls to change the world. http://kristof.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/19/drumrollnow-the-half-the-sky-contest/#comments
  3. Encourage Action: Send an action alert to your supporters to encourage them to do Numbers 1 and 2 above.

  5. Submit: Enter the "Half the Sky" contest by submitting information about a project, organization or person that is doing work on the ground that you would like to highlight. Winners will be featured by Kristof in the coming weeks and will receive a signed copy of his new book.
