Listserv Pilot Launches in June
At conference, many members expressed interest in joining a listserv by staff role (Programs, Development, Finance and Communications). In response, we are launching a development staff listserv pilot in June. To ensure that this service is sustainable, systematized and successful the pilot will focus on testing procedures, protocols and best practices. We will then expand this service to more groups by staff role in 2011. If you have questions or would like to join the development staff listserv, please contact Nicole Regalado.

Saying Goodbye to Kelly Dawson & Amy Zucchero
In Appreciation
Kelly Dawson Kelly Dawson, Project Manager, has been an invaluable asset to our team for the past five and a half years and will be missed by everyone she has worked with during her time at Women's Funding Network. Kelly held various roles throughout her tenure, most importantly managing all logistics for our annual conferences since 2008. Kelly's skills no doubt impress her new employers at the California College of the Arts where she is now the Advancement Events Manager.

Kelly did an amazing job of transitioning into her new position at the CCA while also planning and executing the 2011 Conference in Brooklyn. With record attendance, it was an appropriate sendoff as Kelly was in large part responsible for much of the success. We wish Kelly the best in her new endeavor!

Amy ZuccheroAmy Zucchero, who was also a driving force behind the scenes of the 2011 conference, recently accepted a senior level management position with Miss Representation -- a documentary and national campaign to highlight the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence; challenge the limited and often disparaging portrayal of women in the media; and, drive policy change to eradicate sexism in the media and redefine cultural perceptions of women and power. Amy will be responsible for developing and executing campaign activities as well as partnership strategies. Congratulations Amy!

Stopping the Child Sex Trafficking 'Epidemic'

AFNAP linked hands After a long winter, we are seeing signs of renewed effort to protect our nation's most vulnerable girls. Unlikely allies are joining forces to combat the growing national "epidemic" of child sex trafficking. From the U.S. capitol to state houses in every region of the nation, and from corporate America to our country's biggest celebrities, we are witnessing an awakening from across the political spectrum to the plight of domestic child sex trafficking victims.

This renewed activity is critically needed. According to an update just released by the Dallas Women's Foundation, widespread sex trafficking of Texas girls persists online. The research commissioned by DWF estimates that 625 girls under age 18 were marketed for sex either online or through escort services in February 2011.

To address this problem nationally, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced S. 596 last month. Learn more about the bill and track the bill's progress. Urge your Senator to support and co-sponsor the bill today!  If you would like information on how to mobilize your community in support of the bill, send us an e-mail.

You can receive news and current events related to the sex trafficking of girls in the U.S. by signing up for the A Future. Not A Past. newsletter, signing up for our Issue Monitoring, and "liking" our page on Facebook.
