Anna Deavere Smith Coming to Conference - Register Now
"I go to conference because of the incredible content and inspirational speakers. Most importantly to me, it’s also a chance to be with and collaborate with wise women from around the world and feel the powerful energy and hope of being a part of a global women’s funding movement. Come join us!" - Lee Roper-Batker, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Women's Foundation of Minnesota
We are thrilled to announce that our annual conference in Denver will open with an inspiring performance by Anna Deavere Smith!, whose work combines the journalistic technique of interviewing her subjects with the art of interpreting their words through performance. The New York Times called her “the ultimate impressionist, she does people’s souls.” Ms. Smith has been awarded two Obies, received two Tony award nominations and was runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize for her play Fires In the Mirror. A professor at New York University, she is also founding director of the Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue, a center for artistic excellence addressing social change.

Aging Justice Policy Webinars: April 14 and 15, 2010 10:30 - 12:00pm PST
Since 2003, the Women's Policy Institute has trained nearly 200 women community and non-profit leaders from across the state of California in policy advocacy. The only program of its kind in the nation, the Institute was developed by the Women's Foundation of California to increase the number of community-based women leaders who are creating policies that affect the health and wellbeing of women. With the support of Atlantic Philanthropies, the Women's Foundation of California will lead the replication of an Aging Justice Policy Institute (AJPI) in 3-4 states.
The two-part Webinar on April 14-15 will cover:
- WPI's goals, structure, lessons learned and logistical considerations
- How the Aging Justice Policy Institute compares to the Women's Policy Institute?
- Criteria for AJPI replication
- How to apply for AJPI replication funding

International Women's Day
March 8 marks International Women's Day, a time for us to join women across the world in celebrating our achievements and in drawing attention to the potential women hold to balance our globe. Women are incredible assets to the global economy but we know that they still face very real economic injustices. We have developed a comprehensive toolkit for our members to use in promoting their International Women's Day events.

It's Not Too Late to Join a Leadership Cohort
In the past three years, there has been growing recognition and acceptance of the strategy of investing in women and girls by thought leaders, corporations and organizations around the world. Women's funds must seize this opportunity and capitalize on this increased interest by forging new partnerships and securing robust new financial resources to make sure the current interest does not fade away as merely a fad.
Women's Funding Network is launching a new leadership cohort that will provide an opportunity for members of our movement to scale up their focus and funding.
Bridge Builders: A Next Generation Leadership Cohort. Building upon the success of Voices on the Horizon, Women's Funding Network is launching this cohort of staff, board, donors and strategic grantee partners who demonstrate a commitment to sustaining and growing the women's funding movement and are actively developing their skills and leadership capabilities. The year-long program will develop your personal leadership skills and practical experience for leadership in a women's fund. Click here for more information including the application for this cohort.
Former Women's Funding Leader Running for Office!
Virginia Sweet, the former Executive Director of the Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham, is running for the Alabama House of Representatives! Women currently comprise less than 12% of the state legislature in Alabama, and Virginia will be joining four other progressive women candidates in trying to change that ratio in 2010. Join us in congratulating Virginia on this exciting next step and welcoming Mary Lee Rice as the new President of the Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham.
