New Ways to Prevent the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Adolescent Girls
Women's Funding Network, in partnership with A Future. Not A Past. and our member funds, has committed to a 3 year campaign to end the commercial sexual exploitation of adolescent girls. Rather than continuing to swim upstream, Women's Funding Network has invested in research to understand the scope of the issue, impact public policy, and create a zero tolerance zone for the sale and purchase of our girls throughout the country. Women's Funding Network, along with a national coalition, is also shifting the conversation toward the criminals and businesses that fuel an industry that makes millions of dollars from the commercial sexual exploitation of our children. Read an op-ed co-authored by Deborah Richardson, Women's Funding Network's Chief Program Officer, and recently published in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, that outlines this new approach to preventing the commercial sexual exploitation of adolescent girls.
As many as 300,000 American girls are at risk of being commercially sexually exploited every year and the numbers of girls exploited - particularly through online sites like Craigslist - continue to jump every month. The time to move from concern to outrage to action is now. We all have our role to play and momentum is on our side. The commercial sexual exploitation of children is starting to gain traction in the media and among policy makers. Check out recent coverage on the issue here. Sign our Boycott Craigslist petition that calls for the site to remove their adult services section that feeds and connects the criminals that buy and sell our girls for sex and spread the word among your social networks. Participate in our upcoming webinars about our recently released research findings and learn how you can help build a multi-sector alliance to address and prevent the commercial sexual exploitation of girls in your community.
